A WEEK FOR MONUMENTS II 2024 Competition / Open Call for Community Activation Solutions through Heritage – The Roman Catholic Church in Babșa, Timiș County

Registration Deadline: Jun 30, 2024; Submission Deadline: Jun 30, 2024 The Prin Banat Association is launching a competition/call for community activation solutions through heritage for the Roman Catholic Church in Babșa (Belinț commune, Timiș county), as part of the A week for Monuments II project. This call is open to national and international students and will have a registration-selection phase followed by a production phase for the selected solution.1. GENERAL INFORMATION The theme of the competition is activating communities through heritage and encompasses any form of interpretation that relates to how a community can be (re)connected to local resources and the practical and creative activation of the space in which it lives. For the 2024 edition it is proposed to activate the local community of the village of Babșa, Timiș county, through a series of cultural-artistic events that will take place in the vicinity of the local Roman Catholic church. The actions aim to prepare the space adjacent to the church in order to transform it into a community gathering place, with the potential to become, in the long term, a day centre for the elderly population of the village. Thus, the proposals should develop a dialogue with members of the local community, invite the discovery and acceptance of a new space in the life of the community and activate an inert space, seen as a ruin at present. The competition is open to national and international undergraduate and master students in any field of study. Interdisciplinary teams are encouraged The proposal should contain a buildable component and a cultural-artistic activation component. The buildable component of the selected project will be realized during a demonstration workshop of traditional techniques in Timisoara, in September-Octomber 2024, and then it will be transmuted and assembled in its final form in the vicinity of the Catholic church in the village of Babșa, Timis county, during a community activation event, where the cultural-artistic activation component will be implemented. 2.
