It’s no surprise why so many people flock to Carmel-by-the-Sea. Located on California’s Monterey Peninsula, the quaint and charming city—which is often referred to simply as Carmel—is revered for its rich history and artistic flair, but also its spellbinding natural scenery. Recently, a nearby compound that captures the allure of the region just hit the market, offering two updated homes.
Tucked away just one mile inland on two and a half acres, just 20 minutes from the heart of Carmel, the two-dwelling property is a secluded natural oasis. "Originally, the stunning views drew us [to the property], but in the end, it is the fresh ocean air—gently perfumed with wild sage, eucalyptus, and redwood—that has created such a slice of paradise," note the current owners. "At any given moment, we might see a fox, deer, bobcat, or a myriad of canyon birds, such as blue jays, black eyed juncos, and hawks."
The property’s two turn-key homes combine for a total of 3,800 square feet. The main residence, which accounts for about a third of that space, is nestled on a hillside overlooking the surrounding canyons. Built in 1962, the home was recently remodeled and now offers numerous modern touches, such as concrete floors with radiant heating and a 2,000-square-foot deck to foster indoor/outdoor living.
