Foster + Partners share new design for geometric mirrored airport in Saudi Arabia
Foster + Partners has been selected by AMAALA, the "ultra-luxury" destination located along Saudi Arabia's northwestern coast, to design a new international airport. Consisting of the terminal and control tower, the design concept builds on the idea of a mirage in the middle of the desert. It's undulating geometric form coupled with the mirrored exterior provides a unique reflective aesthetic upon arrival to the building. The airport masterplan was design by international engineering firm Egis. The project is due for completion in 2023 and is expected to accommodate about 1 million travelers per year.
