Hormonal imbalance is hard to notice, but once you do, you should take the proper measures
What is hormonal imbalance?
First of all before we start talking about imbalance, we need to know what hormones are. Think of hormones as messangers which travel travel through your bloodstream and tell your organs what to do. The imbalanace appears when you have too much or too little of certain hormones, so some organs work more than the others. Because of that you notice changes in your entire body. Depending on the levels of each hormone being produced you might need different type of treatment. If you start noticing symptoms, the first thing you absolutely have to do is to contact your doctor. They will make the necessary tests and give you the proper treatment and will be able to follow your progress.
The symptoms can be difficult to differentiate
What are the symptoms of hormonal imbalance?
As is the case with every other medical problem, hormonal imbalance has its symptoms. The problem, however, is that those symptoms may seem random, so it is difficult to differentiate them. If you notice some, or all of these symptoms, check with your doctor right away.
- Weight gain/weight loss. Some hormones affect your appetite. So having more or less of them can in turn make you feel hungry all the time or like you don’t have any appetite. Sudden weight loss or weight gain is one of the main symptoms of hormonal imbalance.
- Acne. If you are the type of person who rarely has acne and all of a sudden you start noticing more of it, this is a definite sign that your hormones are all over the place.
- Irregular periods. We all know that hormones play a major part in every woman’s body. That is why having irregular periods is one of the most obvious signs of imbalance.
- Feeling tired/fatigued. This is a tricky symptom. After all, if you are really busy at work or have a lot of things to do throughout the day, feeling tired is normal. However, if you start noticing that you are fatigued even if you have had a good night’s sleep, then chances are you need to check your hormones.
- Mood swings. Hormones play a major part in the way we feel, because they send signals to our brain and organs. If you have certain hormones in excess, or not have enough of, chances are your moods will be all over the place.
There are many symptoms, but these 5 are present in almost every case
How to balance symptoms?
As we have already stated multiple times, the first thing you have to do is book and appointment with your doctor. They will run some tests which can determine what hormones you lack or have excess of and will tell you exactly how to battle that. What’s more, having hormonal imbalance might be a sign that there is something wrong with your gland. That is why, checking with your doctor first is the most important thing. However, there are some things you can do which are going to help balance your symptoms and speed up the process of getting your hormones in check.
Always check with your doctor first
Physical activity
Obesity as at an all time high. That isn’t just because of all the junk food that is being consumed, though. More and more people prefer to spend their time in front of the TV or laptop, play video games or sit on their phone. Others, have demanding jobs which require them to sit at a desk in front of a computer for at least 8 hours a day. That is why it is extremely important to find time for some physical activity. Exercising reduces your insulin levels and insulin is one of the most important hormones in our bodies. Too much of it can be dangerous and even lethal. Reducing your insuling levels prevents heart diseases, diabetes, inflammation and weight gain. Therefore, excersing is super important not just for your hormones, but for your overall physical and mental health.
Even if you aren’t able to do vigorous exercising, walking and hiking can be good substitutes
Battle hormonal imbalance with healthy balanced meals
Balanced meals are the best. A balanced meal contains everything your body needs – protein, carbs, fats and fibres in the necessary dosages. Eating like that can give your body everything it needs and you can also make sure that your body is getting just the amount it needs. Usually on a balanced plate you can find 1/4 protein, which is the meat, eggs and dairy, or tofu if you are vegan. Then, 1/4 of the plate is the carbs, which is the grains, such as pasta or rice. And 1/2 of the plate is your fibre – fruits and vegetables. The more colorful the plate, the healthier it is.
Eating balanced meals is extremely important
Stay away from refined sugars, fizzy drinks and junk food
Sugar is unhealthy (maybe we need to write this in all caps, but we don’t want it to look like we are yelling at you)! Refined sugar is even more unhealthy. You can find it in almost every store bought sweets you can find, as well as in all fizzy drinks. Junk food, in general, is universally known to be bad and we bet this isn’t the first time you are hearing about it. So, we will say it again. Simply, stay away from junk food.
Refined sugar is very bad for your health
Take care of your mental health
Stress unlocks the adrenaline and cortisol hormones in your body. Being stressed all the time wreaks absolute havon on your hormones. That is why, taking care of your mental health should become a priority. Managing your stress levels and working on issues you might have will be extremely beneficial and you will start noticing the difference in your body right away.
Getting a good night’s sleep is also very important not just for your mental, but for your physical health as well
Drink green tea
We’ll go as far as to say replace coffee with green tea. It is a magical beverage. Is is extremely beneficial for your body, because it also affects your insulin levels. And as we have already discussed having high levels of insulin can cause a lot of problems and can be extremely dangerous. So, having a cup of green tea in the moring and one in the afternoon will increase insuline sensitivity and keep you healthy and your hormones will be in check.
Green tea is one of the beverages with the most health benefits
If you can, cut off fizzy drinks entirely
Eat more eggs to provide the necessary protein
You can get healthy fats from eating fish
Your mental health is just as important as your physical one
Don’t overeat or undereat
Headaches are a common symptom of hormonal imbalance
So are tiredness and fatigue
