VDF products fair: Köral is a faceted acoustic panel system by AntiCAD and architecture studio TakahashiLim A+D that takes its cues from coral reefs.
Köral is the result of the Singapore-based companies' exploration into the relationship between natural forms and sound, and designed to "create an unnatural quiet zone within the crowded exhibition space".
The system comprises a series of hexagonal- and heptagonal-shaped panels that are lined with sound-absorbing insulation and combined with 3D printed joints to form a folded surface.
This folded surface is modelled on the form of coral, and offers an NRC rating of 1.0 – the highest sound absorption rating possible, which means no sound is reflected back into the room.
"The acoustic sculpture is generated using mathematical principles underlying natural forms," said AntiCAD. "The result is an experimental collaborative artwork that marries design, acoustics, and innovation."
