The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum just announced its winners for the 2023 edition of the National Design Awards, an annual event celebrating the best individuals and firms from around the design world in what is now its 24th consecutive year.The program was established in 2000 as part of the White House Millennium Council and honors the best of the best American designers making impacts in the public sphere in multiple disciplines and across ten separate awards categories.Winners will be honored during a special Awards celebration held Thursday, October 5th, at the Cooper Hewitt's Manhattan home. Speaking of their selection, the museum’s director, Maria Nincanor, said: "This year’s cohort, a diverse group of designers across disciplines, are not only charting new pathways in their respective fields but also integrating sustainable, socially responsible and people-centered practices in their work in a moment of profound global complexity." "This year’s National Design Award winners are a highly diverse group — from a handcraft-focused fashion designer to one of the early pioneers of digital design — but they share many common traits: a highly rigorous process to their discipline, a truly collaborative approach and putting people front and center in their practice.
