Knowing what type of skin you have is essential if you want to find the best possible skincare products and look after your skin for life. The more you look after it the younger you will look and the healthier you will feel. This can help to boost your confidence and help you to achieve your goals.
Taking good care of your skin is extremely important
Why Skin Type Is Important
In order to choose the best products and adopt the best possible skincare routine, you need to know what type of skin you have. There are three main types of skin:
-
Dry
Dry skin generally feels tight as it is lacking in moisture. This makes your skin cells look flatter and duller, reducing the natural shine, or glow, of your skin.
Dry skin can be a result of being dehydrated. To avoid this you will want to sip water regularly throughout the day and avoid drinks that dehydrate you, such as coffee and alcohol.
However, in many cases dry skin is genetic. Certain things, such as lifestyle, diet, and even the local climate can affect the dryness of your skin. Exfoliating daily can help to alleviate the issue as dead cells are removed, making it easier for the remaining cells to absorb natural oils and moisturizers.
You should use moisturizers with squalane or camellia oil in, as well as hyaluronic acid.
Hydration should be your number 1 priority if you have dry skin
-
Oily
The opposite of dry skin is oily, when your skin is producing too much natural oils. These oils sit on your skin and block the pores, increasing the risk of outbreaks. On the plus side, oily skin is always well moisturized, helping you to look younger. Of course, dealing with daily outbreaks is a pain and you’ll want to exfoliate daily to remove dead cells and prevent the sebum from building up. Exfoliating will also help to minimize any marks which appear after you have had an outbreak.
However, you should avoid exfoliators with abrasive materials in them as these can damage your oily skin.
Oily skin needs gentle exfoliation
-
Normal
Normal skin is the one in the middle, not too dry and not oily. But, that doesn’t mean this is perfect skin. Normal-skinned people often have dry cheeks and this can affect other parts of the body. You will need a moisturizer that ensures moisture is retained where needed. In general, gel-like moisturizers are the better choice for people with normal skin.
Again, exfoliating can help to remove dead skin cells and keep your skin looking fantastic.
Even if your skin is normal, it still needs to be taken care of
Your Skin Type
It’s actually very easy to discover which type of skin you have which will help you to choose the right skincare products. All you need to do is place a piece of blotting paper onto your face and then hold it up to the sunlight.
Very little oil means you have dry skin. An imprint of your forehead and nose suggests normal skin while if there is plenty of oil on the blotting paper you have oily skin.
This method is fast and effective, helping you to identify your skin type and choose the right products to look after your skin.
