Attention city dwellers struggling to cultivate a garden in small, yard-less spaces—don’t be so quick to let your green thumbs languish: this adorable raised garden bed is the answer to some major urban farming conundrums. It comes with an impressive rating (4.5 out of 5 stars!) from faceless yet enthusiastic fellow gardeners on the internet, so we decided to do a little digging of our own (pun intended) to see what’s what.
First off, at $59, the price is inexpensive compared to similarly designed garden beds, and it doesn’t hurt that its wood, alloy steel, and metal frame is coated in a leafy green shade that evokes the great outdoors. While it is recommended for indoor use, the 40-inch by-10-inch planter also functions just as well outside, and per the reviewers on Amazon, all of whom certainly wouldn’t steer you wrong, it’s "easy to move around," and "easy to assemble."
It has a depth of 8.3 inches and holds approximately 1.5 cubic feet of soil, which means you have ample space to grow anything from herbs to succulents to romaine. At 31 inches tall, it’s an ideal pick for seniors or those who prefer to spare their lower back when pulling weeds. And though it should be de rigueur for planters of any sort to have drainage, sometimes they don’t. In this case, there’s no need to worry–there’s both a drainage hole and line to keep the roots from getting too soggy.
And now for the most important question: How much greenery can it support? Apparently, a LOT, if this easily-excitable shopper is to be believed: "*slaps roof* this bad boy can hold so many plants." Our numerous herbs and veggies can flourish without the fear of the planter tumbling over, or as one reviewer points out, succumbing to animal intruders.
"We just needed a way to keep our veggies from becoming raccoon casualties, but we ended up with a stable, strong and so far very durable raised garden," writes a 5-star commenter. "What impresses most is how stable it is, even on slightly uneven surfaces. Wind, heavy rain and even clumsy humans have yet to topple it."
There is it, folks! All the incentive you need to add this pretty garden bed to your patio or well-lit indoor nook and watch your flowers, herbs, and veggies thrive.
