Over 150 of the best buildings by American architects honored at the 2022 American Architecture Awards

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design has announced the overall winners of the American Architecture Awards 2022, with over 150 projects recognized. Described by its organizers as “the nation’s highest public award for new architecture and urban planning,” the list recognizes the best new architecture designed and constructed by American architects and by international architects with offices in the United States. The winners, which range from SHoP’s Uber Headquarters in San Francisco to Multistudio’s Academic Excellence Center for Southwest Community Collage, were selected from a shortlist of over 400 projects. “For 28 years, The American Architecture Awards have celebrated the best contemporary architecture and highlights the many ways buildings and spaces can improve lives,” noted Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, architecture critic and Museum President of The Chicago Athenaeum. “This year’s winning projects are also characterized as exuding urban generosity, a sense of dignity, and timelessness — the absolute paramount definition of Good Design.” The winning projects are listed below, along with a selection of images.
