Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman

It’s no surprise that Charles and Ray Eames spent much of their careers investigating molded plywood—but when they introduced their lounge chair and ottoman in 1956, they immediately made history. The influential couple aimed to create a modern version of a 19th-century English club that has the "warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman’s mitt." Each set is assembled by hand with a great attention to detail, and is available in two sizes with a selection of veneers and leathers. The base and back braces are made of die-cast aluminum while the chair base has a built-in swivel mechanism. Both pieces stand on adjustable stainless-steel glides while their shock mounts are made with resilient natural rubber. You won’t need to look far to find this lounger in many modern homes today—its iconic silhouette and comfortable nature has made it a clear favorite among design lovers.

Design Within Reach Finn Lounge Chair

Developed for Design Within Reach by Norm Architects, the Finn Collection (2013) expresses the designers' pursuit of "utility, purity and quiet beauty." The chair's teak frame can be oiled to maintain their original color or left alone to develop a beautiful silvery patina. Removable cushions are clad in UV-protected, mildew-resistant Sunbrella fabric to withstand the elements. Seating can be used with or without cushions. Weight capacity: 300 pounds. Made in Indonesia. Danish designers Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn named their company Norm to express their dedication to "working with Danish norms and standards refined over hundreds of years," says Bjerre-Poulsen, "rather than rejecting them in the endless search for new."

Menu Afteroom Lounge Chair

Combining the iconic to create the new. The two newcomers from Afteroom – the Lounge Chair and the Dining Chair - are the result of combining the inspiration from two iconic chairs of early modernism. The 'Thonet Bentwood Armchair' by Michael Thonet and the 'Spanish Chair' by Børge Mogensen. The combination of these two classics became something new – just as elegant as the Thonet and as comfortable as the Spanish Chair. Relax and enjoy. Afteroom aka Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei are powered by an intriguing interest in proportions, materials and cultures. We're proud to feature several of their designs in our Fall 2015 collection and the common thing for all of them is that they share the same qualities of simplicity, inspired by classic Scandinavian features. Besides being really warm and nice people, Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei are two really talented designers. They originate from Taiwan, but work from their studio in Stockholm. Their design philosophy pivots around simplicity and honesty. When asked to elaborate they say, "We often describe ourselves as advocates of time on a mission to create beautiful products. Products, which will only get more valuable as time passes by. It's design you can grow old with".

Knoll Risom Arm Lounge Chair

The Risom Arm Lounge Chair (1943), by Danish designer Jens Risom, is testament to the simplicity and ingenuity that is so often found in timeless modern furniture. One of the first pieces commissioned by Knoll®, it brought the natural materials and understated form of Scandinavian design to large-scale U.S. production. Originally constructed with surplus parachute straps, the chair made the best of the few materials available during WWII. Today, the streamlined hardwood frame is expertly joined with mortise and tenon construction, and the heavy-duty cotton straps are tightly basket-woven across the frame for strength and resilience. Greenguard® certified for sustainable materials and manufacturing. Each piece is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and the designer’s signature. Terassi Lounge Chair

The husband-and-wife team of designers Julie and Mika Tolvanen works out of Studio Tolvanen in Helsinki, designing everything from furniture to accessories for companies around the globe. Though they share their lives together, each one approaches design from different directions. "We are both very independent minded," Julie explains. In fact, the Terassi Collection (2017) was their first project together. Inspired by 1930s-era furniture they came across on a visit to Timberline Lodge in Oregon, they endowed the Terassi Lounge Chair with wide armrests to "add the convenience of being able to set your drink or your phone down within arm’s reach" and round tapered legs for a leaner profile. The result is a collection with a rustic yet crafted appearance. "We wanted the overall feeling to be familiar but a bit lighter, a bit friendlier," Julie says. Terassi is expertly fashioned in high-quality teak with a beautiful straight grain and topped with comfortable pillow-like cushions upholstered in UV- and mildew-resistant Sunbrella fabric to withstand the elements. Made in Indonesia.

Ten Sienna Chair

In the tenth iteration of its original design, this sculptural chair represents the best of the modern design movement. Handcrafted in China by skilled artisans using traditional Chinese joinery methods, this carefully crafted armchair has no screws or nails. The solid white oak gleams with a hand-rubbed oil finish. The buttery soft leather cushions are vegetable-tanned and will patina beautifully over time. Generously sized for lounging, the Ten Chair is meant to be admired from every angle. Begging for a spot near the fireplace, the Ten Sienna Chair is just waiting for you to curl up with a good book.

Hans J. Wegner CH25 Lounge Chair

The Carl Hansen CH25 Lounge Chair is the ultimate expression of designer Hans J. Wegner's use of woven paper cord. The material is lightweight, yet exceptionally strong and comfortable. More than 400 meters of it are used to weave the back and seat around the frame. The design itself is dynamic and light-looking, with tapered oak legs and a slightly backward tilt. When he founded his company in 1908 in Odense, Denmark, Carl Hansen was determined to prove that high-quality craftsmanship and efficient mass production could work well together. To this day, Carl Hansen & Son furniture--mostly the continually popular Danish Modern designs of the 1930s through the 1960s--is swiftly produced by hand, combining the best materials possible with traditional woodworking techniques and the latest manufacturing technologies. Hans J. Wegner CH23 Side Chair

For 58 years, designer Hans Wegner developed memorable, comfortable, stunning furniture for Carl Hansen & Søn, the same company that continues to produce his authentic works today. Known as the "chair-maker of chair-makers" – he conceived over 500 chairs in his lifetime – Wegner was a prolific designer with a unique ability to bestow an elegant lightness on sturdy, long-lasting pieces that remains unmatched today. The CH23 Side Chair (1950) was one of the first chairs that Wegner designed specifically for Carl Hansen & Søn at the start of his career. It’s expertly fashioned with a solid wood frame and handwoven paper cord seat, reflecting his appreciation for Shaker craftsmanship. Made in Denmark.
