40 projects shortlisted for 2024 EU Mies van der Rohe Award
The shortlist for the 2024 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture — Mies van der Rohe Award has been announced, with 40 works selected from 362 nominated projects. The shortlisted projects are spread across 20 European countries, with Spain leading the list with six projects. Belgium and Denmark each have four projects, meanwhile. The award, operated on a biennial cycle, recognizes projects completed within the last two years, chosen to "highlight and disseminate today’s shared culture of architecture in Europe through works that create high-quality living environments for everyone." The 40 projects comprising the 2024 shortlist were chosen by a jury comprised of Frédéric Druot, Martin Braathen, Pippo Ciorra, Tinatin Gurgenidze, Adriana Krnáčová, Sala Makumbundu, and Hrvoje Njiric. "We thought it was important to show the diversity of themes, scales, and approaches to architecture through this selection of projects; the attitude and positioning of architects towards the treatment of the complexity of the world and the correspondence of their thoughts and identities with the proposals," said jury president Druot. Five finalists will be announced at the beginning of February, with the Architecture and Emerging Winners announced in mid-April. In May, a day-long event on EU Mies Award Day will see lectures by the architects of the winning and finalist works at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. Below, we have set out a selection of the shortlisted projects in no particular order, chosen instead to reflect the broad range of typologies contained within the shortlist. The full list is available here.Read the full post on Bustler
