Best Kept Interior Design Secrets
In the idea scenario, we all have a professional interior designer on speed dial to pester for advice. However, many of us simply do not have that luxury. On the bright side, we do have the next best thing: all the crucial tips and tricks you will need in order to create a cohesive, unique, comfortable, and aesthetic home design. So, let’s see what advice designers gave us when it comes to decorating the home.
We have all the crucial tips and tricks you will need in order to create beautiful home design
#Think about comfort
Yes, aesthetics are important, however, comfort is key. Your home won’t be much use to you if you cannot enjoy it comfortably. While that chair may look gorgeous, think about how practical it will be. Can you comfortable sit in it? If the answer is no, you do not need it. Why clutter your home with things you can’t even use, when there are plenty of items that are visually placing and comfy at the same time. Be practical and be mindful of the things you buy. Yes, some items are great to look at, but your home is not a display, it is there to be used.

#One thing at a time
While you may be eager to decorate the whole home in just a day, this is unrealistic. It’s tough on the budget, it’s hard to do, and it’s not sustainable. “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and your home shouldn’t be either. Take your time. Get all the essentials in the rooms, but don’t rush to decorate everything. Do one thing at a time and prioritize. For example, start by repainting, then think about the bigger furniture, then finally about the smaller details. There is no need to rush. You can always add more to your home over time. But there is no need to clutter, just for the sake of having “decor”.

#Blend styles
There are no hard set rules when it comes to self-expression. While you may think you can also use one home design style and that’s it, this is far from the truth. If you like a mix of different styles, don’t be afraid to incorporate them in your home. Pick elements you like from each style and bring them together, just make sure they complement each other in some way. This will create a unique space that will really showcase your personality.

#Map out your gallery wall
Gallery walls are a great idea. However, they can be hard to picture. While you may imagine where everything will go in your head, the reality can be quite different. So, instead of puncturing your wall a million times, designers recommend doing this easy trick. If you want to hang your pictures without making mistakes, just cut out templates from cardboard. Just trace the picture, cut the cardboard and then move the templates around with some tape until you have the perfect gallery wall. Then you can put up the real deal. Oh, make sure to use painter’s tape, so you don’t pull off the paint.

#Mix patterns and textures
Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and textures. This will help give a more diverse look to any space and adds a ton of personality. Mixing a variety of patterns and texture will really layer your design and make the space feel cozier. Just make sure you still have a coherent theme going, as you don’t want just any patterns and textures. Play around with blankets and pillows if you are not sure how and where to start. It’s cheaper and they can always be replaced if you are not feeling it.

#Choose performance fabrics
While you may like the idea of that velvety couch, will you be okay with constantly cleaning it? For high traffic areas in the home, designers recommend choosing performance fabrics. These are fabrics that are easy to clean, but still look good. You don’t want a run that is hard to clean right under the dining room table. Think about everyday use and be practical.

#Creative hiding
There are some things in the home that just don’t fit in with our design and stick out like a sore thumb. These are usually things like cables, radiators, routers, and so on. However, there are a ton of creative solutions for this. Instead of letting them be, you can easily hide these items. For example, you can build a cabinet over your radiator or hide your router in hollow books. There is always something you can do. These small additions can really help your overall design.

#Storage, storage and more storage
While you may be exited to fill your rooms with furniture, art, plants and knick-knacks, it’s very important you don’t forget about storage. Think about each room’s individual needs. What will you keep in the bedroom? For example, you will need a wardrobe for your clothes, a bedside table for your essentials, cable holders, boxes for shoes, etc. Without proper storage, your home will quickly clutter. And even if you have a great aesthetic, everything will be lost under all that clutter.

#Leave some blank space
You may think that you have to fill every inch of the space with something for it to be designed well. However, that isn’t the truth. Every good design needs some breathing room. While you may want to incorporate as many things as possible, designers recommend taking a step back and to reevaluate. Less can definitely be more and leaving some blank space.
