Houses We Love: Every day we feature a remarkable space submitted by our community of architects, designers, builders, and homeowners.
Project Details:
Location: Running Springs, California
Interior Design: Inkplot Co.
Footprint: 1,006 square feet
From the Owners: "The one thing that we did not want to compromise on was a black cabin. The house was originally baby blue with red trim, which made it look very whimsical. We were going for a more dramatic exterior to contrast all the trees. The final color we chose was Soot by Benjamin Moore. It is not a true black, but has undertones of dark blue and grey, taking on a slightly different shade depending on the time of day.
"The basement was originally used as a second living area, but we wanted to make this boring space something special. We envisioned a moody cinema room with a huge projector screen. We painted the once-white walls a dark olive green, added a 100" screen, a deep-set comfy couch, lounge chairs, a popcorn machine, and a candy bar wall filled with all of our favorites. It’s the cinema room of our dreams. To make it even more special, we added a custom secret bookcase door that hides the staircase down to the cinema room. From the main living room, all you see is an unassuming bookcase carrying our favorite books and vintage finds. As you walk down, you get a preview of the space with classic movie posters lining the wall.
"Lightfoot Cabin was a labor of love for us and we are continuing to try to make it better. All the furniture pieces and décor we’ve chosen are intentional and functional. This space is so special to us and we are so proud of how it turned out. We can see ourselves enjoying it for years to come and love that others can enjoy it as well."
