AJ Fire Safety Design 2023

Event Date: Nov 2, 2023; Event City: The Grenfell Tower fire and the subsequent (ongoing) public inquiry forced a major reassessment of how we design, monitor and deliver housing in the UK, and in particular, how we should approach the question of fire safety.In response to this, The Architects’ Journal and AJ Specification launched the Fire Safety Design conference, where we united a community of over 1000 people in 2021 and 2022 to examine the lessons learned from the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy, focusing on the implications for design, specification, and management within architectural practices.The 2023 edition will delve deeper into the ongoing developments surrounding the inquiry, which has been instrumental in reshaping regulations and standards within the profession. We will explore the nature, scope, and progress of the inquiry thus far, speaking to practices about their lived experience of adapting to the changing standards, and shedding light on the significant reforms that lie ahead.As the architectural community continues to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing fire safety standards, it is crucial for us to come together, share knowledge, and collaborate to shape a safer and more resilient built environment.
