Musicians Deena Robertson and Austin Bisnow will be the first to admit that turning the Topanga cabin into a comforting, creative space started in a "very L.A." way.
Deena Robertson and Austin Bisnow came to Los Angeles with a familiar dream—a stirring hope that has sustained this California city for generations. "I roadtripped out here at the end of 2010 to write and produce songs," Austin says. "I hit it off with friends and fell in love with Deena."
They were both trying to make it as musicians while simultaneously searching for a place to put down roots when Deena suffered a concussion. What happened next, she says, is "very L.A."

The couple turned one corner of the late-’70s home’s living room into a music area.

"My friend suggested I go to a psychic," Deena says. "When I went to one, the psychic said, ‘You’re going to buy a house soon,’ and then basically went on to describe the A-frame."
Deena and Austin had been looking to buy for two years, so Deena remembers laughing. "Then she said, ‘It will feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but you’ll be close to a big city,’" Deena continues. "She also mentioned we’d be near horses. So I tried to find this old horse ranch we’d looked at before. I couldn’t find it, but stumbled upon an A-frame."
