Design Within Reach Symbol Side Table

A celebration of time-tested joinery techniques and the beauty of solid wood, the Symbol Side Table (2020) is a sculptural form designed to be enjoyed for generations. Intersecting geometric shapes – including arcs, planes, and cylinders – come together without the use of any screws, showcasing the durability and beauty of exposed dovetail and mortise-and-tenon joints. The honest expression of these construction methods furthers the attractive, timeless appearance of this table. To create the curved legs, designer Cody Campanie turned to the craft tradition of coopering (barrel making), resulting in graceful faceted shapes that catch light and create beautiful shadows. Made in Poland.

HAY Rhom Trivet

After living and working in Milan for Lissoni Associati, American designer Shane Schneck founded his own Stockholm-based studio in 2010. Since that time, his work has received international acclaim in the form of iF, Red Dot, and Wallpaper awards. With its distinctive rhomboid design, the Rhom Trivet is ideal for the kitchen and dining room. Constructed of heat-resistant silicone, it protects delicate surfaces from hot pots and pans. Made in China.

Herman Miller Nelson Saucer Crisscross Bubble Pendant

While outfitting his office, architect and Herman Miller design director George Nelson discovered a silk-covered Swedish hanging lamp that he coveted but found too expensive. He then recalled seeing a photo in the paper of Liberty ships being mothballed "by having the decks covered with netting and then being sprayed with a self-webbing plastic," which got him thinking. "And then, Whammo!" Inspiration struck, and by the next night, Nelson had designed his first Bubble Lamp (1952) by spinning a skeleton of steel wires on a turntable and shooting it with translucent plastic until it was covered in a smooth, washable film. "When you put a light in it, it glowed," he said. This is the authentic Bubble Lamp, produced in partnership with the George Nelson Foundation. Bulb (not included): LED, CFL or incandescent; E26 base; 60W max for small, 150W max for others. UL Listed. Made in U.S.A.

Vitra Nelson Ball Clock

The Ball Clock (1949) was the first of more than 150 clocks designed by George Nelson Associates for the Howard Miller Clock Company, which sold them from 1949 into the 1980s. Nelson Associates, first launched as a studio by George Nelson in 1947 in New York City, employed some of the most celebrated designers of the time, including Irving Harper, Don Ervin and Charles Pollock, all of whom contributed to the clocks. Until its closure in the mid-1980s, the company designed a range of products for many clients, including Herman Miller, Inc., which was established in 1923 by Howard Miller’s brother-in-law, D.J. De Pree. A bit of family history: De Pree also founded the Herman Miller Clock Company in 1926 but turned it over in 1937 to Howard, who renamed it. As for the identity of Herman Miller, he was Howard’s father and De Pree’s father-in-law. The Ball Clock appeared in the original Miller brochure as Model 4755. This is an authentic Nelson Clock, produced by Vitra Design Museum. Uses one AA battery (included). Made in Poland. Photo Courtesy of Design Within Reach

Design Within Reach Mondrian Mirrors

Mondrian Mirrors (2008) proportionally play off one another and enhance any space. A lightweight extruded aluminum frame surrounds the mirrored glass and lends Mondrian its quiet presence. Each mirror comes equipped with a metal cleat hanging system for vertical or horizontal placement. Polished edges and Masonite backing complete the quality construction. May be used in damp areas. Made in U.S.A.

Afteroom Story Bookcase

Book storage is difficult in small spaces. With a small footprint, and discreet frame, Story Bookcase was designed to make the most of your space and show off books and other collectibles. "We simply want to create things people won’t get rid of," says Story designer Chen-Yen. In creating the Story Bookcase (2017), they brought a new twist to vertical book storage. Story allows you to shift and rotate the shelves to suit your space's needs. Be creative with your story. The Story Bookcase and the Story Planter are built on the same stem. If you purchase both a bookcase and a planter, you can mix and match shelves and bowls to create literary gardens and libraries that grow. Simple assembly required; ships in multiple boxes for easy handling.

Nathan Yong Line Dresser

A customer favorite since its debut in 2010, the Line Collection features a geometric frame made out of precisely crafted oak or walnut. It's distinguished by its strong horizontal lines that reflect natural landscapes and lend a sense of restfulness and calm. The Line Dresser (2019) has soft-closing drawers. Working from his studio in Singapore, designer Nathan Yong designs thoughtful pieces that resonate with a quiet elegance, for which he credits the congestion of city living. "My work is a reflection of my yearning for nature in this concrete jungle," he says. Made in Malaysia.

Case Dulwich Extension Table

Since graduating from London’s Kingston Polytechnic in 1979, Matthew Hilton has built a following for his innovative furniture and lighting, with pieces held in the permanent collections of London’s Geffrye and Victoria & Albert Museums, among others. His Dulwich Extension Table (2016) - pronounced "dull-itch," just like its London neighbor Greenwich - is a masterclass in function and craft. The piece’s slender legs draw outward from the corners, maximizing user legroom, while details like mitered joints and visible through-tenons speak to its artistry. Finished with a solid-wood edge banding for durability, the tabletop has a locking steel mechanism that easily opens to accommodate the table’s additional leaves. The rectangular table is made in Malaysia (walnut) or Lithuania (oak), and the round one in Thailand.

Ton Salt Chair

The compact footprint of the Salt Chair makes it a smart choice for cafés or just about anywhere you need to maximize seating. Unlike chairs that have widely splayed legs, a Salt Chair can be placed side by side with another without wasting space in between. Its lack of ornamentation and unnecessary excess lends this timeless, Shaker-style chair a modern feel. And no, it’s not named after its color – until recently, it’s been available only in black. Rather, it owes its title to being as fundamental as the salt shaker on your table. Finished in a water-based opaque paint that really makes the chair’s profile pop, Salt is unpretentious, familiar and made for everyday use.

Skagerak Georg Stool

The Georg Collection (2013) is the work of Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm, a Nordic designer who studied in Sweden and Denmark. Operating from her studio in Copenhagen, Halstrøm takes a minimalist approach to maximizing functionality. The Georg Stool serves as the perfect accompaniment to the Georg Console Table (available separately), which measures just a shade under 13 inches deep and can work as an entryway table, small desk, vanity, or dining nook. Includes a cushion. Made in Denmark.

HAY Time Hourglass

In a variety of colors and sizes, the Time Hourglass (2015) is a modern twist on the centuries-old invention of the sand glass or sand clock. Its organic shape and color combinations of clear or tinted glass add a hint of color and sculpture to bookshelves and consoles. Made in China.

Case Eos Chaise Lounge

Named for the Greek goddess of dawn, the Eos Collection (2011) is lightweight – literally and visually – smartly proportioned and very comfortable. Constructed of sturdy powder-coated aluminum that won’t rust over time, the Eos Chaise Lounge also features a comfortable sling seat made of all-weather Textilene that’s mold-, mildew-, and UV-resistant. It has two discreet wheels for easy portability. Made in China.

Lapalma Jey Table

A graduate in product design from Art Center College of Design in La Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland, Francesco Rota opened his own studio in 1998, where he works on designing furniture, lighting, interiors, showrooms and event spaces. Over the years, he’s collaborated with high-end brands such as Knoll®, L’Oreal, Mercedes Benz® and many others. His pieces are marked by their comfort, functionality and simplicity, equally inspired by the aesthetics of iconic designs and efficiency of modern-day production processes. Sporting a solid marble base with steel stem.

HAY About A Stool 38

The son of a cabinetmaker raised in the Scandinavian design tradition, Danish designer Hee Welling understands the power of simple, logical, useful solutions. His About A Stool (2009) for HAY began with a desire to tell a story about a stool and quickly became one of the bestselling collections in Scandinavia. With its gently curved, comfortable seat and slim steel legs, AAS 38 offers pleasing proportions and a quietly elegant aesthetic for residential and commercial settings. Made in China.

Case Celine Desk

The simple forms of midcentury architecture inspired designer Nazanin Kamali's Celine Desk (2008), which is crafted with turned and tapered solid hardwood legs, a single-drawer desktop and an open cubby for documents and other essentials. As the founder of two start-ups, Kamali has worked on everything from restaurant design to art installations. With such an impressive resume, it's not surprising that her work has been recognized with a Good Design Award and two Design Plus awards. Made in Lithuania.
