Debbie Wei Mullin, the founder of Copper Cow Coffee, reveals the essential tools she uses to get a flawless pour.
Like the rest of us, Debbie Wei Mullin, the founder of Vietnamese latte kit company Copper Cow Coffee, has been at home for the past 15 months—with the addition of a newborn baby, no less. For her, the time spent indoors has only underscored the importance of a home brewing routine. "Just having a favorite mug or a new concoction to look forward to in the morning keeps me going and provides inspiration for a new product, or just a more productive afternoon email sprint," she says. Below, she shares a few accessories she invested in that have now become indispensable.
"I’m obsessed with all of Fellow’s hardware, and when they came out with an electric kettle, I was first in line. They now have a Bluetooth-enabled one that is a game changer to get the water going while I’m feeding my son or coming back from a morning walk."
"A scale makes it easy for me to get the perfect pour or to formulate new flavors."
"Absolutely obsessed with a glass mug for me to fully see the pour in action and enjoy the color of our coffee. Plus, the insulated nature of this is game changing."
"A burr grinder is essential for trying out new, whole-bean coffee samples from our supplier. It creates a consistent grind at any desired size whereas a blender-style grinder just pulverizes the bean. It gets the best expression of your bean depending on what your brew is—a fine grind is great for an espresso-type brew for my lattes, and a coarse grind is what you need for a chocolate-y Vietnamese cold brew."
"When I’m feeling like a frothy latte, I use a combo of our sweetened condensed milk with some fresh milk and froth it up to combine with coffee for a lighter, airier latte."
