The flagship event of Hansen House and Israel’s leading design event, Jerusalem Design Week 2023 will build on its previous successful editions. Showcasing a wide range of unique exhibitions, installations, and projects, the event welcomes the participation of both Israeli and international designers. The overarching theme of this year’s event is intriguingly titled ‘Lies and Falsehoods’. Inviting a range of creative interpretations from designers, architects, artists, and tech-savvy experts, the theme seeks to examine design’s manipulative tools and the realities they shape. During Jerusalem Design Week, the aim is to present a series of works that capture the meaning of illusion, works that knowingly conceal, deceive, or give rise to an alternative reality, and works that attempt to uncover and explore truth and authenticity, in the face of lies and falsehoods.Since its first edition in 2011, Jerusalem Design Week has become the largest and most influential public design event in Israel, attracting more than 40,000 visitors each year. The annual central theme focuses on situations that are unique to Jerusalem and Israel, as well as having international relevance. This stems from the idea that Israel’s cultural landscape allows it to serve as a living laboratory for the exploration of urgent global issues and is based in the belief that design must respond to these issues.
