Why did we decide to try the LG Electronics LP0814WNR Portable Air Conditioner, you ask?

Well, for starters, LG is a reputed name in the electronics industry. So, when the brand dropped the LP0814WNR Portable Air Conditioner, we were naturally intrigued to see if it justified the reputation.

After intensive testing for a couple of days, we listed down its benefits and drawbacks. And we were glad to see the former outweigh the latter. In the following sections, we will walk you through all the points that will help you make the right decision about whether to get one.

With all that said and done, let’s begin!

The LG Electronics LP0814WNR Portable Air Conditioner is a small and power-efficient unit that’s perfectly suited for smaller rooms. Despite having a simple appearance, it’s integrated with multiple user-friendly features for seamless operation for both first-timers and pros. On that note, let’s take a look at its advantages.

  1. Design

We’d like to start by walking you through the overall design. Unlike a lot of air conditioners that have a heavy and bulky structure, this all-white model has a sleek and compact construction to fit cramped spaces. You’ll find the LED display panel and control panels on the top, just above the air vents.

Since it needs to be vented to the outside, users have to set up the window kit. However, this isn’t a very challenging job per se, especially if you have worked with such models before.

Weighing under 50 pounds, it’s one of the most lightweight and portable units on the market that eliminates the need for permanent installation. We really appreciate how the brand doesn’t miss out on equipping it with a set of caster wheels for seamless maneuverability.

  1. Power

Operating on the standard 115V household current, it’s engineered for a cooling capacity of 8,000 BTU, catering to a maximum area of up to 200 square feet. It consumes around 880 watts, which gives it a high energy efficiency rating of 9. In hindsight, it’ll cut down on your power bills.

That said, its coverage may vary depending on the conditions. Nevertheless, it can still cool a room measuring between 150 and 200 square feet.

  1. Dehumidifier

Frankly, it’s not uncommon for air conditioners to have a powerful dehumidification function. But for a unit that’s rated for 8,000 BTU, this is certainly a feature to brag about! It effectively removes most of the moisture with a dehumidification capacity of 2 pints/hour (48 pints/24 hours).

Moreover, it doesn’t store the condensate in the tank, thereby negating the need for frequent maintenance. Thanks to the auto evaporation system, the unit constantly recycles the condensate for efficient cooling. Not only does it do away with frequent emptying of the tank, but it also reduces the risk of leakages.

  1. High Fan Power

The LG Electronics LP0814WNR has a high CFM output of 180 while simultaneously directing the air into four different directions for fast cooling. Additionally, it has three fan speeds, which combine with the auto-swing louvers for effective cooling within a short time-span. So, count the brownie points!

  1. Control

As far as operating the unit is concerned, the LED display and marked control panel take the credit for its user-friendly approach. For one, the backlit display panel helps users keep track of the operating temperature. It comes with an infrared remote control so that you can adjust the settings from anywhere in the room.

And there’s the power saving (auto-cool) function for optimum cooling efficiency. Presetting the unit at your desired temperature will enable the thermostat to adjust the fan speed according to the existing room temperature. This, in turn, saves power by always optimizing the fan speed.

Aside from an indicator that tells you when to dump the condensate, it has a 24-hour on/off timer for customized programming. And the auto-restart feature means that the unit saves the last-used settings in case of sudden power failure.

  1. Washable Filter

The fine mesh air filter in this unit performs basic air filtration to provide cleaner air. And being washable, you can rest assured about its longevity. The brand recommends vacuuming it once every two weeks for the best results.

  1. Installation

As we have mentioned before, installing this unit won’t strain your nerves, especially with the detailed instructions guide at your disposal. The window kit arrives in multiple pieces, and you can follow the instructions to put it together.

Here, we should mention that some users prefer using plexiglass for securing the joints, while others use only the part that attaches to the hose. We’d suggest using the window kit only as it can be difficult to replicate its locking system with plexiglass.

  1. User Reviews

Lastly, the LG Electronics LP0814WNR has been showered with praises by both existing and new customers. While some have acknowledged it for its powerful cooling, others have spoken highly about the easy setup. If positive customer feedback sits on the top of your priority list, then you can safely strike it out!

What Could’ve Been Better?

For all the good, there are a couple of downsides to this product. First, like many other portable air conditioners, the high noise level is one of its biggest disadvantages. With a maximum output of 55 dB, the noise can become somewhat hammering during continuous use. Plus, the absence of a night or sleep mode means the sound remains constantly high throughout.

One way to avoid it is to lower the fan speed once you reach the desired temperature. However, if it’s too hot, it can be slightly inconvenient to switch between speeds.

Secondly, the remote control doesn’t have a backlit display, meaning operating it in the dark is a real challenge. But once you get the hang of the buttons, the LED display on the unit will negate the problem to an extent. Given its performance and price, these problems are far from being deal-breakers!

Pros
  • Compact and lightweight build
  • Auto evaporating system
  • 24-hour timer and power saver mode
  • 3 fan speeds
  • Washable filters
Cons
  • Noisy
  • Remote control isn’t backlit

Verdict

So, is the LG Electronics LP0814WNR Portable Air Conditioner worth it?

If you ask us, you’d hear a resounding yes! It has the right blend of compact design, efficient performance and easy-to-use controls. Sure, there are a few disadvantages, but those are nothing that can’t be dealt with.

So, if you’re looking for a non-permanent yet high-performing portable AC on a budget, then this one is worth considering. And when you do so, we’d love to hear about your experience in the comments section down below.
