MẦM HẠ LONG: A PANORAMIC LENS TOWARD THE HERITAGE BAY | DELICATE DESIGN

Located along the shores of Hạ Long Bay, Mầm was conceived as a space where visitors can fully experience the beauty of a World Natural Heritage site through the lens of contemporary architecture. Rather than treating the landscape as a backdrop to the building, Delicate places nature at the heart of the experience, using architecture as a medium to guide perception and reveal broader, deeper, and more emotional perspectives of this extraordinary destination.
Project Information
Project Name: Mầm Hạ Long
Location: Hạ Long, Quảng Ninh, Vietnam
Built Area: 330 m²
Lead Architect: Nguyễn Văn Minh
Design & Build: DELICATE DECOR VIET NAM
Hạ Long is renowned not only for its majestic limestone formations but also for the image of boats navigating across the bay. Drawing from this local identity, the project was envisioned as the bow of a vessel catching the wind and heading toward the open sea. The soft curves of the roof and façade create a sense of continuous movement, evoking the spirit of the coastal landscape while presenting a refined and contemporary architectural expression.

A defining feature of the project is its panoramic curved glazing system, inspired by the lens of a camera. With its expansive transparency and continuous curved surfaces, the glass envelope becomes a viewing frame oriented toward Hạ Long Bay, where the water, sky, and iconic limestone islands remain constantly present throughout the spatial experience.
Extending this architectural language, the multidirectional curved ceiling acts as a soft transitional layer within the interior. While the glazed façade expands the visual connection to the surrounding landscape, the ceiling enhances the perception of depth and openness through its flowing geometry and balanced distribution of light. Together, these elements create an emotionally engaging architectural experience in which vision, spatial perception, and atmosphere are seamlessly connected.

Following this concept, the interior was developed with a restrained design approach. Delicate selected a soft pastel beige palette alongside neutral-toned materials such as textured finishes, glass, and naturally finished surfaces. Decorative elements were intentionally minimized to avoid competing visually with the scenery beyond. Every decision regarding materials, color, and lighting was made to preserve unobstructed views and ensure a seamless relationship between the interior and the surrounding landscape.

Another distinctive feature of the project is the central ceiling composition, where the leaf symbol from Mầm's logo has been transformed by Delicate into an architectural language that extends throughout the space. Soft lines are abstracted into an interconnected geometric composition across the ceiling surface, evoking the image of leaves unfolding and spreading. Beyond serving as a branding element, this feature also represents a technically demanding component of the project, reflecting Delicate's attention to detail and ability to translate complex design ideas into built reality. Intersections within the ceiling are treated as subtle light apertures, producing a gentle visual effect while enhancing the perception of spatial openness.

Mầm Hạ Long is more than a tea house with a remarkable location. The project is a synthesis of architecture, landscape, and experience, where every curve, material layer, and glazed surface has been carefully considered to direct attention toward the site's greatest asset: Hạ Long Bay. Through a restrained yet intentional design approach, Delicate has created a space that allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the heritage landscape through an architectural frame uniquely crafted for this place.
