In a year robbed of serenity, the paint company gives us Aegean Teal—a Mediterranean hue meant to soothe.
Benjamin Moore just announced that its 2021 Color of the Year is Aegean Teal. It’s an "intriguing blue-green that creates natural harmony and invites us to reflect and reset," says the company. Amid the tumult of 2020, the comforting hue is the one we want—and the one we need.
Following last year’s choice, First Light—the company’s take on millennial pink—and the accompanying White Heron that touted an outward-looking optimism, the forthcoming Grecian hue has a grounding effect. "Amid uncertainty, people yearn for stability," says Andrea Magno, the company’s director of color marketing and development. "Aegean Teal and the corresponding color trends palette express a welcoming, lived-in quality that celebrates the connections and real moments that take place within a home."
And this year has certainly been about spending time at home. While we examine and reflect on our living spaces, perhaps with renewed perspective, the muted, earthen color palette that accompanies the sea-tinged pick provides an easy starting point to revitalize and reimagine where we live.
