How Do We Properly Bounce Back?
Event Date: Jun 9, 2020; Event City: Part of the lecture series, “AEC Industry Experiences from COVID-19: What We Did | What We Are Doing | What We Need To Do” which is addressing past, current and future initiatives, constraints and budgets. This series is being organized to identify how best to restructure our operations and how to design, construct, and manage buildings, infrastructure, and civic spaces, emphasizing social impact, sustainability, resilience, and public health, in addition to cost, schedule, quality, and safety. The year 2020 was to be the beginning of the decade of action in the Los Angeles transportation sector. There was significant momentum in multiple sectors that was driving a sea change to: 1) reduce climate change impacts through investments of monetized benefits, 2) provide economic opportunities by connecting communities through billion-dollar infrastructure projects, and 3) increase community resiliency through new innovative programs focusing on equity. These all suddenly changed this past winter. This lecture will focus on outlining the sustainability and resiliency vision of the second-largest transportation agency in the US in the 16th largest global economy to meet the complicated demands of a world changed by the pandemic. Speaker:Dr. Cris Liban, P.E., ENV SP, Chief Sustainability Officer, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Moderators:Feniosky Peña-Mora, Sc.D., FCIOB, NAC, Edwin Howard Armstrong Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Columbia UniversityTom Smith, ENV SP, CAE, F.ASCE, Executive Director, ASCE Register on the CBIPS COVID-19 webpage in advance to receive the webinar link.
