Kazuyo Sejima and Phyllis Lambert named recipients of 2023 Jane Drew Prize for Architecture and Ada Louise Huxtable Prize

Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima and influential Canadian architect Phyllis Lambert are this year's respective winners of the Jane Drew Prize for Architecture and the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize, bestowed annually by the UK-based publications Architects’ Journal and The Architectural Review as part of the W Awards program. Sejima, the 2010 winner of the Pritzker Prize along with SANAA partner Ryue Nishizawa, was named the Jane Drew Prize for Architecture recipient over the firm’s work, which recently has included the expanded Art Gallery of New South Wales and brand-new Shenzhen Maritime Museum. Sejima was also recently named a 2022 Praemium Imperiale Award laureate and was mentioned by AR Editor Manon Mollard as being “one of too few female architects to have established themselves on the international stage.” Lambert was awarded the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize for her influence on the culture of architecture. Her early work with Mies van der Rohe on New York’s Seagram Building has been well documented, along with the influence spread throughout her native country after founding the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal in 1979. Her influence is still widely felt today in both countries. As AR’s Deputy Editor Eleanor Beaumont said, Lambert encourages us to “always be curious.”  Both will receive the recognitions at the W Awards ceremony held on March 3rd at the Battersea Arts Centre in London. They will be joined there by the MJ Long and Moira Gemmill Prize winners. More information about attending the ceremony can be found here. Read the full post on Bustler
