What is St. Valentine’s Day?
St. Valentine’s Day is celebrated each year on February the 14th. It is a holiday which celebrates the Christian martyr Saint Valentine of Rome. The legends says that Valentine was a priest who secretly wed soldiers who weren’t allowed to get married. So, he was captured and jailed. But before he was executed he healed his jailer’s blind daughter and fell in love with her. The day before his execution he wrote her a love letter, which he signed “Your Valentine”. Because of this, February the 14th became a day to celebrate love. It is believed that the holiday traditions that we have today started in England.
